Stakeholders Urge Nasarawa Govt to Embark on Massive Tree-planting Campaign Over Climate Change
At least 180 stakeholders from the Research Supporting African MSMEs To Provide Safe and Nutritious Food and Policy Support for Economic Growth programs have called on the Nasarawa State Government to embark on a massive tree-planting campaign to address climate change affecting food security in the state.
Dr. Mulubrhan Amare, a Senior Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute, emphasized the need for climate-smart agriculture, increased access to inputs, livestock development, and targeted interventions on climate change.
“Today, we tried to see the impact of climate change on Agricultural production, and we found out that the issues of temperature change and other factors are affecting agricultural production and the inputs we use in Nigeria because of climate change,” Amare said.
Professor Oyinkan Tasie, the event’s moderator, noted that the program had 180 participants and focused on six states, including Nasarawa, to address climate change in food production.
Nasarawa State Head of Service, Abigail Waya, commended the organizers and reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting efforts to mitigate climate change.
Participant Usman Yakubu Dodo thanked the organizers and promised to apply the knowledge gained to tackle climate change’s negative effects in the state.
