‘He had a problem in the first training session,’ Forest coach confirms Awoniyi is injured
Nuno Espirito Santo, the coach of top-flight English Premier League (EPL) side Nottingham Forest has informed that Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi is injured.
The coach disclosed in a recent interview that the 26-year-old player picked up an injury in the first training session ahead of the new season.
He informed that Awoniyi suffered a calf injury but hopes the player recovers on time before pre-season stating that it (pre-season) is important for all his players.
“He (Awoniyi) had a problem in the first training session of the week. Let’s see how long it takes,” Santo was quoted by Nottingham Post.
“It was something in his calf. Unfortunately not (for today). Hopefully, he doesn’t miss too much of the pre-season. For all of them, it (pre-season) is important, and more so for Taiwo.”
Despite making a recovery in January, Awoniyi failed to reach full fitness, which has led to sporadic appearances. Last season, he experienced setbacks as a result of a groin operation intended to solve a recurring condition.
The power-playing striker has fought to stay on his feet since last season and made his Tricky Trees debut last April against Brighton & Hove Albion after he managed to return to full training.
