Mikel Arteta approves move to sign Italian defender, Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna
Mikel Arteta, the coach of English Premier League (EPL) side Arsenal has approved a move to sign talented Italian defender, Riccardo Calafiori from Serie A side, Bologna.
The 22-year-old defender’s outstanding performances for Italy at the ongoing Euro 2024 have led to strong speculation that he may join the Premier League very soon.
Reports say Arteta has pencilled Calafiori down as one of three defender targets and he is positive of sealing the deal because Arsenal have a good relationship with Bologna after a deal to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu two seasons ago.
‘‘More on Riccardo Calafiori. Mikel Arteta approved Italian defender, part of 3 defender targets list.
‘‘Arsenal also has a good relationship with Bologna after the Tomiyasu deal; the request is around €50m, but still no formal bid.
‘‘Chelsea would offer players as part of the deal.’’ Journalist Fabrizio Romano wrote on his official X page.
Further reports reveal that Arsenal has presented a long-term proposal to Calafiori after interest was revealed last week and the player is open to joining the London club.
But according to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea is also considering Calafiori and is prepared to make a player-plus-cash offer to Bologna players.
