Napoli lowers Victor Osimhen’s asking price again due to lack of suitors
Italian Serie A side Napoli has once again lowered the asking price of Super Eagles attacker Victor Osimhen due to a lack of suitors from clubs in Europe and beyond.
Osimhen has been Napoli’s best scorer for the last two seasons, including the Scudetto-winning 2022–23 campaign, but Napoli is ready to cash in on him this summer.
The 25-year-old signed a new contract with Napoli in December that will expire in the summer of 2026. The release clause is thought to be worth between €120 million and €130 million.
Napoli has been expecting bids from teams like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain, but no formal proposals have been made as of yet, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Club President Aurelio De Laurentiis is said to be awaiting word from Osimhen’s representatives as well as sporting director Giovanni Manna before deciding what to do next. La Gazzetta speculates that Napoli might need to consider reducing their asking price if they hope to complete a deal this summer.
This comes weeks after English Premier League (EPL) side Arsenal FC asked Napoli to lower their asking price for Osimhen.
The player is eager to stay in Europe, but Saudi Pro League clubs could afford such a big sum even as the Serie A club has not received any serious approaches thus far.
Arsenal have made it clear to Napoli that they are not going to meet Osimhen’s €130 million release clause due to the cost involved, even though they rate him highly.
