2026 WCQ: NFF reveals move to appoint Technical Adviser for Super Eagles after poor results against South Africa and Benin Republic
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed moves to appoint a Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles meaning George Finidi’s days as head coach of the senior national team are numbered.
The NFF, which decided to appoint a Technical Adviser on Wednesday during its executive committee meeting noted that the move was important following the dismal outing of the Super Eagles in the last two 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
In a communique released after the meeting, the NFF pledged to work assiduously and put necessary measures in place to ensure a better-prepared squad ahead of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers in September this year and the resumption of the World Cup qualifiers in March 2025.
“The executive committee wholeheartedly apologized to Nigerians for the dismal output and subsequent very poor returns of the Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles, in four out of 10 matches in the ongoing qualification series for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, and pledged to work assiduously and put necessary measures in place to ensure a better-prepared squad ahead of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers in September this year and the resumption of the World Cup qualifiers in March 2025,” reads part of the communique released by the NFF.
Following the last two matches which saw the Super Eagles hold Bafana Bafana to a 1-1 draw at home and lost 2-1 to the Cheetahs, the NFF will employ a Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles in the coming weeks ahead of the AFCON qualifiers.
“Further to the above, the executive committee resolved to employ an expatriate Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles in the coming weeks, ahead of the AFCON qualifiers and the remaining FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.”
