2026 WCQ: Winning against South Africa would be a boost for Super Eagles —Dele-Bashiru
Hatayspor of Turkey attacking midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has declared that winning against South Africa in the forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying game would be a huge boost for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Dele-Bashiru, who made the remarks in an interview on Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) TV from the Eagles’ camp in Uyo, also noted that the Eagles have supreme confidence that they can defeat any opponent.
He said; ‘‘Winning against South Africa would add a boost for us because going into every game we have supreme confidence that we can beat the opponent.
“I think we will take these games one by one hoping to get the victories in both games.”
The 23-year-old, who represents Nigeria despite being born in Germany, also said that he enjoyed the training sessions led by Finidi George, the recently hired coach.
The player said, ”I’ve really been enjoying the training, Coach Finidi George has a new backroom staff, so the training has been very enjoyable. We’ve also had some running and physical sessions, which I have enjoyed.”
His remarks come days after Finidi expressed optimism about the Super Eagles’ chances ahead of the matches against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and Benin Republic.
During his recent media tour, Finidi expressed optimism about the upcoming games and emphasized that both matches are vital for his team’s comfort in the group.
